Aldearn

I saw the night was waking
the moon began to shine
and all our hearts were breaking
as we watched the sun’s demise
over crashing waves, their voices
whispered in the night
beckoning the ancients
to come and join our fight
a cool wind blew our hair back
a wind that loves the hillside
blowing reeds so gently
we worried not for life
but in our haste we called out
for answers not our right
the wind it whispered gently
“sit back, and listen to the night”
when once the wind was settled
the vapors filled our lungs
the brave, the dead remembered
about our halls are hung
the paintings of the fallen
who worried not for life
the men who charged the shield ranks
and fell upon their knives
I see the night is awakened
on fields of steaming death
the brave, the dead remembered
where nothing took a breath
The wind it whispered gently
the bodies filled our sight
but in our haste we called out
“sit back, and listen to the night”
