The Unknown Pain

by Stephen Paden

There is something beautiful about
Imploding
Watching yourself recoil on all sides
Until what’s left—
What’s left is a
Heart-shaped mass
beating drum-sounds
of fear
when what you fear is not
the familiar scar of despair
but the unknown pain of hope
