Fay Purdham, A Poem

by Abby Paden

her frame now slender
hips grown out
her laugh now quivering
filled with doubt

her eyes now painted
glare now frozen
claiming love
no longer chosen

choice removed
now love resides
her hopeful wish
eternal bride

and motherhood
her soul enchanted
in absent womb
no seed was planted

barren winds
denied her claim
her innocense
denied a name

the child remembered
loose the strands
of time’s embrace
in barren lands

his love, surprise
her smile a grace
his tender tips
across her face

her breasts, a heave
her kiss is planted
their life begins
in realms enchanted
